How often do you use your brain?

A really dumb question, you use your brain basically every second due to Central Nerve System and your Peripheral Nerve System, both carry impulses over synapse to your spinal cord and then the brain.

I'm aware of the fact that you're using your brain all the time, but I'm asking when you really put your brain to something. School, job, etc.

I mean, carrying impulses and then diffusing them into chemicals and then back into an electrical impulse sounds pretty hardcore to me

In a broad sense, yes that would be the case.

I use it most of the day.. when I get home I rest for a while then keep going
