What's the sense for the credit system in the forum?

First of all, sorry my English.

But: what is the sense for use a credit system in a forum? I think this only generates garbage (or, at least, it encourages garbage generation). A good forum is not only ones that generates more and more threads and posts. It's the same in the "physic" forum's: I have learned in the street assemblies that a lot of people ONLY LISTEN to others (for think about it, learn new things, ideas, gain resources...) and this don't mean that they are not contributing to the forum. I think a forum is a gathering of people. Participating in a forum is not just talking about it: participate is also and simply be among the people of that forum, learn from them and think with them. Sometimes you stay in a forum only one day. What's the problem with this? Internet is a big forum and is not necesary (at least not for the people) generate threads or any other activity if there is not a good reason for it.

I don't know what you think about.
