What would you do (Fallout Scenario)

Scenario: (in case you haven't played Fallout) The Communists nuked all over the United States and it had turned into a wasteland. Every animal is mutated except for your loyal dog. 

What would you do? If you and your family were put in Vault 111 and you watched them shoot your Mother/Father and take your siblings with them. 

How would you survive? Would you join up with the raiders? Minutemen?
