I really love matte black, aswell as different shades of purple.

Purple, not because it's the most aesthetic, but because it's not actually in the spectrum of visible light. Violet is close to but not the same as purple.

Our brain invents purple when there is a mixture of red and blue light, without any intermediate yellow wavelengths.

I guess our brains invent all colours as we see them, because it's just a wavelength of an EM wave interacting with our eyes receptors. But purple is a bit special in that it is not associated with one part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
