Agreed, Boruto was directed by Yamashita.

Although it wasn't half bad, it would've been a lot better regarding the plot points and making sure that the series would continue if Kishimoto directed it. 

I wonder if Boruto will end up getting a full on anime or manga series.

If boruto get a full anime series it would be great
Cause the naruto shippudden series it's in fillers now so if they continue naruto shippudden or make another season of boruto

Shippuden is in fillers right now so that Kishimoto gets more money honestly. Also it's being delayed to fix up the schedules with Boruto and what not.
