Visual Studio Code or Notepad++

Neither. I use Sublime Text (https://www.sublimetext.com/). I used it for WebDev on OSX and got used to it. Love the Package Control feature and all the quick command I can access via CTRL+SHIFT+P (unique, sort, convert case etc.). Works on Windows and Linux and it's free (you can find crack/serial easily, it's not expensive and the only difference between free and paid is a "please pay message" that pops up from time to time).
