End of the world?

What does "end of the world" really mean? like how would it happen? And how can anyone tell if we are nearing it or not? Strange question.

world ends when sun loses energy, starts expanding, swallows planets
but im sure u meant something different
world as we know it ends when war or disaster cuts off channels that keep civilisation going
cut off food supply (freeways severed, crops irradiated, u name it) and most of us wouldn't last 2 weeks
