I am a HUGE Pink Floyd fan so I decided to write this! It is a history on the band.

Pink Floyd
How They Began
Pink Floyd was founded in 1965. The original four members consisted of Syd Barrett (the band "leader"), Richard Wright, Roger
Waters, and Nick Mason. Barrett lead them through the underground music scene in London. He also led them to a debut
album. Their first published album was "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn". I find these albums to be very good, yet very peculiar. This is mainly because Syd had so much influence, and created these albums with such peculiarity. Sadly, things began
to deteriorate for Syd. He was a regular acid/LSD user and he began to lose it. David Gilmour also joined in this time. Syd would
stand up on stage during performances and simply stare into the audience blankly or he would be playing the wrong song. I find
this so upsetting, considering he was such a beautiful music genius and lost it all. He really was something special. Syd left soon
thereafter, rarely associating with the band ever again.
The Fame
It was 1973 when "The Dark Side of the Moon" was released. This album was a hit and is one of the best selling albums to ever be created as well as having one of the most well recognized covers. It featured instrumental songs such as "Any Colour
You Like" and "On the Run". It also had songs that mainly focused around the idea of life, death, and sanity. An example is
"Brain Damage", which basically just discusses being crazy. Personally, I love the instrumental "The Great Gig in the Sky". It is
beautiful in my mind. This album stayed on the charts for basically the duration of Pink Floyd's career (a very long time). It
specifically was 736 weeks on the Billboard 100. It returned to the top 20 in 2014. This seemed to be the top of the world for
Pink Floyd. Everything was going there way.
Wish You Were Here and More
Personally this album, called "Wish You Were Here" is my favorite album ever made, more specifically my favorite song ever made. The album cover is my profile signature. The beginning and end of this album, released in 1975, featured a specific homage to the ex-member Syd Barrett. This is known as "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". There are 26 parts to it in total. This album featured this as well as "Wish You Were Here", "Welcome to the Machine", and "Have a Cigar". "Have a Cigar" was sung by Roy Rogers, contrary to
popular belief that it was Waters. The ending on "Wish You Were Here" really speaks to me so much, as does the whole song.
During car rides I will just put it on repeat and reminisce. It is so amazing, and my original LP of the album is one of my most
prized possessions. Two years later, the album "Animals" was released. This featured songs such as "Dogs" and "Pigs". It was very successful as well. Then, in another two years, the final Floyd "mega-hit" was released. This was "The Wall".
The Wall
"The Wall" was the story of a man named Pink Floyd and his crazy life endeavors. It features "Comfortably Numb" and "Hey You" as well as my personal favorite song from this album "Nobody Home". "Vera" is also very good in my opinion. This almost had as much success as DSoTM and was critically acclaimed by basically everybody who heard it. The band felt that Wright didn't contribute enough, and because of this, he was removed from PF in 1979. "The Wall" has sold twenty-three million copies. I believe it is the third most-selling album ever.
Things Deteriorate
Waters felt he was the only writer in the group who was contributing, and relations were just, in general, poor. Everybody was
unhappy and they felt like they shouldn't be together anymore. They did release another album though. It was "The Final Cut". I find it as a "break-up album". It was very good in my opinion. This released in 1983. Waters left the band in 1985, and Wright
returned. The trio made a few more albums including "The Division Bell" in 1994, which is pretty good. Basically, Pink Floyd
was over.
Now...
Barrett died in 2006 and Wright two years later. Last year, the official final album "The Endless River" was released. I haven't explored much of the album, as I don't really like much of PF's later works.
Conclusion
I love Pink Floyd, and I find "Wish You Were Here" to be the best of all their material. The song "Wish You Were Here" itself mainly. Pink Floyd is one of the most famous British bands ever, as well as one of the most famous bands ever from anywhere around the world. People still love their music to this day and listen to it all the time (including me of course). They are a timeless band and they will never be forgotten.
