This question really falls upon ones opinion.
I typically code cross platform applications in C++ or Java because they can be run on all systems while C# (as in the coding language) cannot. 
Also @bitm0de has pointed out to me that .Net which most c# applications are built on is actually cross platform.

There are many studies concluding that Java is the most improductive and with the highest learning curves languages but it is in high demand by big corporate software.

Well Java and Javascript both suck, but they are hugely demanded.. (like PHP, shitty language but high demanded).
I don't think Java is hard to learn, but it's quietly tricky.
